COMPENSATION

    Field Training Officer (FTO)

    Lateral Transfer
    Certified officers will enter the pay scale at the first level of their current TCOLE certification. Additionally, they will receive the yearly incentive pay for that certificate, as well as a $3,500 signing bonus.

    Example: An Officer with an Intermediate Certificate will start at $64,313.60. That officer will also receive the $3,500 signing bonus (paid on their first check) and $900 a year for having their Intermediate Certificate.
    Training and Equipment
    • Paid police academy ($4,500)
    • Department provided equipment (pistol, AR-15 rifle, gun-belt, baton,
    • flashlight, ammunition, holster, medical kit, ballistic vest, pepper spray,
    • handcuffs, radio, etc.)
    • Paid uniforms
    • Paid training
    • Full salary while attending the police academy
    Fitness and Strength Testing (FAST) Program
    The College Station Police Department promotes a healthy lifestyle which, increases an officer’s physical readiness and will reduce the likelihood of injury. The FAST program is designed to allow participants to gain points by participating in health exams, assessments and educational classes combined with a battery of physical tests. The participant may then be eligible to receive a monetary incentive payment based on the amount of points accumulated.

    • The battery of tests is created by the Cooper Institute and includes:
    • Maximum pushups in one minute
    • Maximum sit ups in one minute
    • Timed 300 meter sprint
    • Time 1 ½ mile run
    Participants’ total point values are placed into tiers determined by the amount of monetary incentive as follows:

    • Tier 1 = $1,200
    • Tier 2 = $900
    • Tier 3 = $600
    • Tier 4 = $300
    • Tier 5 = $50

    Employees are also eligible to receive $10/month towards a fitness facility membership.

    Vacation
    Police Officers earn 10-20 days of paid vacation (dependent on years of service).
    Sick Leave
    All full-time employees accrue a total of  12 days at a rate of 3.69 hours per pay period.
    Holidays
    Police Officers receive 11 paid holidays per year.
    Fitness Time
    Police Officers receive three hours of paid on duty fitness time per week.
    Court Time
    Police Officers receive paid court time.
    Retirement
    Each employee contributes 7% of his/her salary into the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Effective January 1, 2002, employees are vested after five years, at which time the City contributes to the fund at a 2:1 ratio. Employees may retire at any age with 20 years of service. An employee may retire after five years of service if they have reached 60 years of age. An employee who leaves the service of the city and ceases to be a member of TMRS is entitled to a refund of all accumulated contributions in his/her account or may leave them in the fund for up to five years.
    Deferred Compensation
    The City offers two voluntary 457 deferred compensation plans administered by ICMA-RC and Nationwide Retirement Solutions.
