Brazos Valley Senior Games

The City of College Station is hosting the 2017 Senior Games Feb. 24-26. The Senior Games promote physical and mental health and fitness among Texas Senior Citizens by encouraging them to maintain healthy lifestyles and social relationships, to participate in sports and recreational activities with other seniors, and to provide an environment for athletic competition.

Ages 50+ can compete in track and field, swimming, basketball, cycling, golf, 5k, bowling, horseshoes, pickleball, disc golf, washers, table tennis, tennis, 3-on-3 basketball, cornhole, and basketball skills. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each event and age group.

Register Jan. 2- Feb. 13. The registration fee is $30, and includes shirt and two tickets to the reception, with an additional $4 fee per event.

ELIGIBILITY | All Athletes must be at least 50 years old. Athlete’s competition age will be based on his/her age on Dec. 31, 2017.

AGE CATEGORIES |  Participants will compete in one of the following age categories for both individual and/or doubles sports: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90 and over. Team Sports are divided in to the following brackets: 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. Partner and team age groups will be determined by the age of the youngest partner/team member.

PROOF OF AGE | All athletes may be required to show proof of age during the Senior Games. Any athlete unable to prove age will be disqualified. Any individual on a team sport who is not of the minimum age or whose age is listed on the roster incorrectly and causes the team to play in the wrong age division will be disqualified.

RULES | All events will be conducted in accordance with both the Texas Senior Games Association Official Rules and the 2017 National Senior Games Association Rules unless otherwise specified.

EQUIPMENT | Athletes are required to provide their own equipment, unless otherwise specified by sport.

INCLEMENT WEATHER/UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES | The Brazos Valley Senior Games reserves the right to cancel any event due to insufficient registration, weather or events beyond their control. In the event of a venue change or cancelation, athletes will be notified by email or phone. Every effort will be made to contact athletes prior to the start of the event.

PHYSICAL CONDITION | It is recommended that athletes consult with their personal physician prior to this event. It is also recommended that athletes prepare and train accordingly.

HOW MANY SPORTS/AND OR EVENTS CAN I ENTER?  | Athletes are encouraged to enter more than one event, as long as events are not held at conflicting times. Scheduling cannot be done to accommodate other events. You must be a member of a team to enter the team events, teams/doubles will not be assigned. It is your responsibility to be at each scheduled event in which you are registered. No refunds will be given if you miss a scheduled event due to participation in another event scheduled for the same day.

DOUBLES EVENTS | Athletes must have a partner to enter doubles events. During registration, you must enter your partners name when asked, doubles will not be assigned.

TEAM SPORTS | Team players will register individually, by selecting the team sport. During registration you must include your team name and teams must meet roster requirements to participate. Basketball has a four athlete minimum and 8 athlete maximum. It is recommended that teams use the mail-in registration option.

GOLF | Participants can register for the Gross Division or the Net Division. The Gross Division will be a total of what you score in your round. Net Division will be a total of what you score minus your verifiable handicap. To qualify for the Net Division you must provide a verifiable handicap index. There will be prizes for the lowest gross score, longest drive, and closest to the pin for male and female. Medals will be awarded for both divisions in each age division.

RECEPTION | All participants and their guest are welcomed to attend the reception at the Museum of the American G.I. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a buffet style meal, a D.J. and a dance floor. We will have door prizes and encourage everyone to attend to meet your fellow competitors.

To accommodate out-of-town guests room blocks have been made at various local hotels. To receive block rates, reservations must be made over the phone by mentioning "Senior Games 2017.” Hotels to be announced.
