In an effort to improve efficiencies, cost effectiveness and ensure environmental protection, the cities of Bryan and College Station joined together in May of 1990 to create the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management Agency. BVSWMA [ba-vis-ma] runs the Rock Prairie Road Landfill that currently accepts an estimated 1000 tons of solid waste per day. In addition, BVSWMA continually strives to find new ways to improve solid waste disposal for local residents.
BVSWMA has set the following goals for the future:
- develop a client base that maintains the economic stability of BVSWMA
- maintain the capacity of disposal to meet the BVSWMA regions needs
- operate all facilities with in established regulatory guidelines.
